What Is Voltage Regulation?

Voltage regulation measures how well a power supply maintains a constant output voltage as the load current changes. It is expressed as a percentage of the full-load voltage. A perfect power supply would have 0% regulation, meaning the output voltage stays exactly the same regardless of load.

Good voltage regulation is essential for sensitive electronic equipment. Poor regulation can cause flickering lights, computer malfunctions, and damage to electronic components. Transformers, generators, and electronic power supplies all have characteristic regulation values.
