How Download Time Works

Download time depends on the size of the file and the speed of your internet connection. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) advertise speeds in megabits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are usually shown in megabytes (MB). Since 1 byte = 8 bits, a 100 Mbps connection downloads at about 12.5 MB per second.

Actual download speeds are often lower than advertised due to network congestion, distance from the server, the server's upload capacity, and the number of devices sharing your connection. A good rule of thumb is to expect 60-80% of your advertised speed during typical downloads.
