Circle Skirt Calculator

Calculate the radius and fabric details needed to sew a perfect Full, 3/4, Half, or Quarter circle skirt.

How to make a circle skirt

A circle skirt is a simple, flowing skirt made from a circular piece of fabric with a hole in the center for the waist. The amount of "flare" depends on the type of circle you choose:

  • Full Circle (360°): Very voluminous, great for twirling.
  • 3/4 Circle (270°): Less volume than full, but still very flowy.
  • Half Circle (180°): A classic A-line shape with moderate flare.
  • Quarter Circle (90°): A gentle A-line, minimal flare.

The Formula

The key to making a circle skirt is calculating the Waist Radius (R), which is the distance from the center point to where you cut the waist hole.

R = Waist Circumference / (2 * π * Circle Portion) - Seam Allowance

Where "Circle Portion" is 1 for Full, 0.75 for 3/4, etc.

For the total length of fabric needed (from the center), you add the skirt length and hem allowance to the radius.

Our calculator assumes a standard 2 cm seam allowance at the waist and 2 cm hem allowance.
