How to measure belt size
Finding the right belt size can be tricky because "pants size" and "waist measurement" are not always the same thing. Most people need a belt that is larger than their waist size to accommodate the thickness of their clothing.
The Golden Rule
Belt Size = Waist Size + 2 Inches (5 cm)
For example, if you wear size 34 pants, you likely need a size 36 belt.
Measurement Methods
- Measure an Old Belt: Lay it flat on a table. Measure from the spot where the buckle connects to the belt (not the end of the buckle!) to the hole you use most often. This is your true belt size.
- Measure Your Waist: Use a tape measure through the belt loops of your pants while wearing them. This accounts for the pants' fabric thickness.
General Size Conversion (Men)
- Small (S): 30-32" Belt (Waist 28-30")
- Medium (M): 34-36" Belt (Waist 32-34")
- Large (L): 38-40" Belt (Waist 36-38")
- XL: 42-44" Belt (Waist 40-42")
